How you take control of your website.
When Assay Ventures designs and builds you a website — a pitch site, a landing page, a brand presence — there comes a day when you want to edit it yourselves. This brief lays out how that works, subject to the signed scope and handoff schedule.
Four paths. Different trade-offs on cost, ease, and how much of us you keep in the loop. Pick the one that fits how your team actually works. None of them trap you.
What you'll receive from us
Every website engagement ships with a defined paid-for asset bundle so there's no ambiguity about what belongs to you:
- The live site. Every client-specific page, layout, and underlying site file included in the signed scope — yours after payment.
- The brand kit. Colors, fonts, logo marks, and design tokens, in a single reference file.
- The source files. Figma or Framer design file plus the production code.
- A short migration guide. This document. Plus a 30-minute walkthrough call to answer questions live.
Your four paths to self-managed
Ranked from "easiest for your team to edit on day one" to "cheapest long-term."
Framer
RecommendedA visual editor that looks and feels like Figma. Click anything on the page, change it, republish in two clicks. No code, no files, no training wheels.
- Edit any text, image, or number by clicking on it
- Publish changes instantly to your custom domain
- Invite teammates; each gets their own editor access
- Every change is auto-saved and versioned — roll back anytime
- You'll be on Framer's platform, not your own servers
- Custom domain requires pointing DNS (we handle this at handoff)
- Complex new layouts are faster with a designer than alone
Webflow
Enterprise-safeThe professional-marketing-team standard. Same visual-editor idea as Framer but with more power under the hood. Slightly steeper learning curve, slightly more capability.
- Industry-standard platform — every marketing agency speaks Webflow
- More powerful if you later expand into a full marketing site
- Enterprise-grade hosting and uptime guarantees
- Takes an hour or two for a new editor to get comfortable
- Slightly higher monthly cost than Framer
Keep the current build · add a simple editor on top
CheapestWe leave the current site exactly as it is and bolt on a simple web-based editor. You log in, you see a form with labeled fields, you type in the new values, you click save. The live site updates.
- Zero ongoing cost — hosting and editor are both free
- Fastest to stand up — we hand this over in under a week
- Edit any headline, number, or paragraph through a simple web form
- Limited to editing existing content — no drag-and-drop layout changes
- Adding brand-new pages or sections still benefits from our help
- Underlying platform is code-based — fixes or new sections are handled through the quoted output model
The clean break
Maximum independenceWe hand you every client-specific source file — website code, brand kit, design files, editable content — and you take it to whatever team or agency you prefer. You own the project assets. We step away.
- Complete project-asset ownership — files, brand assets, repository access, and handoff credentials
- Freedom to pick any agency, any stack, any direction
- No lock-in to any platform or partner
- Requires a technical partner on your side to maintain the site
- Typical agency maintenance runs $120 – $200 per hour
- Without a maintainer, sites tend to go stale within 90 days

Our recommendation
Framer for most teams. Simple editor if budget is tight.
For teams who want to edit the website without calling anyone, Framer is the sweet spot. One login gets you a visual editor any team member can use on day one, on a custom domain you control, for under $30 a month. You can walk away from it at any time without losing your assets.
If monthly cost matters more than editing power, the simple-editor path (Path 03) is free forever and still lets non-technical teammates update copy through a web form. We'll walk you through either setup.
Next step
When the time comes — whether it's a month from now or a year — tell us which path you want. We schedule a migration window, rebuild the site into the chosen platform if needed, walk your team through a 30-minute onboarding, and hand over the logins listed in the transfer inventory.
From that moment forward, your team owns the steering wheel. We remain available as a strategic partner if you want us — see our retainer brief for how that looks.
